kami nAPO muna – a tribute
I was listening to the “Kami nAPO Muna” record this morning and I discovered that it both has good and bad effects. On the positive side, I enjoyed listening to most of the “remake” versions of the APO songs. On the negative side, however, listening to the CD lengthened my Nihongo studying period. I could normally memorize a chapter’s vocabulary and review the chapter’s lesson in an hour. The music taking much of my attention, however, that study period was doubled.
But listening to the record was worth my time. With the song “remakes” being as good as they can probably be, there’s no wonder that the record is selling well. There were two songs, however, that caught my attention – not because they are exceptionally good, but because I didn’t appreciate how the songs were sung.
The first of the two songs that I didn’t like was the “When I Met You” remake by Barbie Almalbis. I love Barbie’s singing style but that style, I think, just didn’t capture the beauty that the original version had. The second song that I failed to appreciate was the Sound rendition of “Di Na Natuto”. My reason: it just didn’t sound APO-ish.
Apart from the two songs, however, I totally enjoyed the other 16 songs in the album. Overall, the remakes were good and APO fans, young and old, would surely enjoy it. As to the songs included in the album, here’s a list:
1. Pumapatak Ang Ulan - Parokya Ni Edgar
2. Yakap Sa Dilim - Orange and Lemons
3. Doo Bidoo - Kamikazee
4. Awit Ng Barkada - Itchyworms
5. Nakapagtataka - Sponge Cola
6. Ewan - Imago
7. Batang-bata Ka Pa - Sugarfree
8. Kumot At Unan - Boldstar
9. When I Met You - Barbie Almalbis
10. Bakit Ang Babae - Sandwich
11. Kabilugan Ng Buwan - Drip
12. Di Na Natuto - Sound
13. Anna - Top Suzara
14. Blue Jeans - Rocksteddy
15. Panalangin - Moonstar88
16. Paano - Shamrock
17. Pag-ibig - Kitchie Nadal
18. Bawat Bata - The Dawn
